Unfortunately, our lives seem to have become more stressful, especially during and after covid. Anxiety has increased in all ages, whether it is at school, work or at home, we tend to suffer more anxiety.

Stress and Anxiety can have an affect on your whole system both mentally and physically. When we are stressed, our body responds by releasing a range of chemicals including Hormones including adrenaline and cortisol . This is the fight or flight response which once enabled our ancestors to escape threats.

This can raise our blood pressure; it increases our blood sugar and slows down our digestion. This is normally when we get digestive issues, for example bloating , pain and many more. It can have a big impact on our energy levels resulting in low energy and low mood.

It is important to control anxiety and stress levels avoid chronic conditions that can

arise from a continually stressful situation. These can include type 2 diabetes , high blood pressure , headaches , fatigue , anxiety .

*Increase water intake as stress can cause you to be dehydrated.

* Reduce stimulants for example caffeine

*Reduce or cut out simple carbohydrate foods ie white bread , white pasta , white rice , cakes , biscuits , pastries.

*Look at your everyday life balance – aim to make small changes, take time for yourself

*Consider meditation, yoga , Thai chi or other relaxing techniques

* Be kind to your digestion , eat smaller regular meals

* Look at breathing exercises, excellent for relaxation.

*Grounding – balancing your ions, walk on damp grass barefoot for 10 minutes each

day.

*Forest Bathing – the Japanese use this to de stress and relax. Walk in a wood or forest and breath in the air.
